Textbook Non-Science Nonsense

O

In most high school libraries across the US is a text book titled; "How Life Began" by Irving Adler. The book contains the following quote: ”When the theory of evolution was first thought of as an explanation of the family resemblances of plants and animals, it was only a reasonable guess. But by the time it was developed in its present form by the English biologist, Darwin, in 1859, it was no longer just a guess. It was a scientific law proved by many lines of evidence." There is an increasing movement in the evolution camp to remove the process of evolution from any serious discussion by calling it a fact. Since atheists cannot consider Creation as a possibility they are aggressively seeking to remove all doubts with this strategy. Consider, however, the following Q&A from one of my responses.

Question: I have a friend who is very intelligent (aren't they all) who has taken it upon himself to correct my "misfound" belief in creation. I am well read in science and do understand the argument well, but trying to communicate with him at his level is very challenging (one though I want to meet). How can I communicate the Gospel to this person?

Answer: You will find a dialogue with your friend to be very frustrating. We can all argue "my science is better than your science" and we will not make any progress because the issue is not scientific. The issue is the foundations or presuppositions. Science changes constantly but God's word does not. You must take him to his presuppositions. Does he really believe "He came from pond scum, his destiny is dirt and life has no meaning" because that is what evolution teaches? When I dialogue with people like P…, and I've had many conversations with many people like him, the discussion usually ends when I ask: "If you really believe evolution why are you still here?" Most of them don’t really understand where their worldview will take them (straight to Hell). This question usually makes them mad. Remember men are dead in their sin and CANNOT SEE unless the Holy Spirit enlivens them. Remember Lazarus in the tomb! As long as his body was dead he could not hear the call of Jesus. Only after the Spirit had restored his body could he hear and respond to Christ’s call. This is why we pray for God to work in a person’s life before we try to lead them to Christ. Dead men need to be made alive and then they can respond to the Gospel.

The use of the “fact of evolution” must be countered by a questioning response. For example ask; “How can evolution be a fact when science can’t see it in the present?” or “Isn’t science limited to testable hypotheses?” We MUST question the “fact” approach at every opportunity.
