Different Kinds of Dinosaurs
In my workshop hour that deals with dinosaurs we look at the
many different kinds of creatures. Dinosaurs have two major groups, based on the structure of the hips; the
saurischians were lizard or reptile hipped while the orntihischians were bird hipped. We will describe this
difference by quoting from the book Dinosaurs by Design. "The dinosaurs had three bones on each side of the
pelvis: the ilium, ischium, and the pubis. In reptile-hipped dinosaurs, the pubis pointed forward, and the ischium
pointed backward. In bird-hipped dinosaurs, the pubis pointed backward with the ischium… The ostrich and the
Struthiomimus look a lot alike. …Struthiomimus (would) make a great in-between form between dinosaur and
birds, especially if some feathers were added. Unfortunately for evolution theory, there is something very wrong
with this idea Struthiomimus was not a bird-hipped dinosaur. Yes, you guessed it, he was a lizard-hipped
dinosaur! If evolution were true, you would expect dinosaurs with bird hips would look like birds, wouldn't you?
Ankylosaurus looks more like a low-slung tank than a graceful airborne bird. What kind of hips does
Ankylosaurus have? Right again, bird-hips. In fact, all of the dinosaurs that had long slim legs, small lightweight
bodies, and in general appearance looked somewhat like birds, were lizard-hipped. On the other hand, the
dinosaurs that were bird-hipped were otherwise all wrong to be the ancestors for birds. These facts are difficult
to understand for those who assume evolution is true, but they surely don't present any problems for scientists
who believe in creation!"
